Woman may have died in drunk driving accident

When a motor vehicle accident occurs, a presumed negligent driver may be most concerned about his or her liability in regard to any other motor vehicles involved and any injuries suffered by its occupants. Some may not understand that negligence on their part can also result in liability for any resulting injuries of the occupants in the vehicle they operated. A recent Maryland fatality may be the result of a drunk driving accident.

The 20-year-old woman who died in the accident was a passenger in the vehicle operated by a 23-year-old driver. In an attempt to cross a highway, the driver slammed into another vehicle on the passenger side. It has not been reported if the other driver suffered any injuries as a result of the collision.

The passenger's injuries were serious, and emergency crews decided to life-flight her to a nearby trauma center. Sadly, her injuries were too severe, and she died. Authorities indicated that there may have been evidence that the 23-year-old driver was possibly under the influence of an unspecified substance at the time of the crash and could face criminal charges. The investigation is still pending, but the crash reconstruction team has assisted in understanding the circumstances of the collision.

Anyone who has suffered the loss of a loved one due to a drunk driving accident can likely attest to the frustration one feels in knowing the death could have been prevented. When unexpected fatalities occur, loved ones are left to finance unexpected funerals during a period of shock and grief. Maryland personal injury attorneys can advise families of their options for legal recourse in civil court when suspected negligence is the potential cause of an unnecessary death.
