Mother sues school for failure to provide safe premises for son

Many Maryland parents are thankful for the access to and education from the public school system and the services it provides. Trusting children to the care and management of teachers and administration can sometimes be difficult. Parents expect safety measures to protect children from any unnecessary danger and to be provided at all times. One mother in another state has accused the school her son attends of failure to provide safe premises, and she has filed a slip-and-fall accident lawsuit against the public school.

The lawsuit claims that the school failed to remove an unknown liquid from the bathroom floor. Because no notification was placed in the area of the slippery floor, the woman's son slipped and fell. The boy's mother claims that he suffered a serious injury.

The mother is seeking an unspecified amount of compensation. According to the lawsuit, the boy's injuries resulted in a disability. The lawsuit further claims that the boy will require an indefinite amount of medical treatment for his injuries, and the costs remain unknown.

Although every person is responsible for their own personal safety, dangers are not always clearly evident. Failure to provide safe premises where children are located is especially dangerous because children are not always able to correctly discern danger. Families whose children have suffered similar unfortunate injuries could benefit from explaining their circumstances to a personal injury attorney in Maryland. After examining the specifications of each case and evidence available, attorneys can advise if a lawsuit in civil court is a possible option to help finance needed medical treatment for related injuries.
