Maryland car crash results in death of man

The majority of states have passed a version of the Move-Over law that requires motorists to either move into the far lane or slow down whenever they encounter an emergency vehicle or other potentially unsafe situation on the shoulder of the highways. However, many drivers may not bother to take evasive actions when a vehicle is disabled along the road. Unfortunately, one man has died after a Maryland crash occurred along the shoulder of a local route.

According to the accident report, the victim had exited his vehicle after it reportedly suffered a mechanical breakdown. As he was working under the hood, another vehicle approached. For unknown reasons, the woman driving that vehicle purportedly veered out of her lane and drove onto the shoulder of the route.

Her car then collided with the rear of the disabled vehicle. The impact resulted in the man being tossed through the air and landing in a grassy area to the side of the road. He was not breathing when police arrived on the scene. Though he was transported to a local medical center, his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced deceased shortly after the wreck.

The other driver was also injured, though not seriously. It is unknown whether Maryland officials will file charges against the woman concerning this fatal car crash. The victim's surviving family are likely shocked and devastated after the loss of their loved one. While they seek to heal emotionally, they may have difficulty attempting to recover financially. They may elect to pursue a wrongful death civil claim against the driver responsible for this tragic death.
