About the Zantac Lawsuit

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently recalled the popular heartburn medication Zantac due to its link to various forms of cancer. Research has shown that ranitidine – the active ingredient in Zantac – can be contaminated with NDMA or N-Nitrosodimethylamine.

Organizations that recognize NDMA as a probable carcinogen include the:

  • Food and Drug Administration
  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
  • World Health Organization (WHO)
  • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

Sanofi, the primary manufacturer of Zantac, has been accused of corporate negligence that put potentially millions of people at risk of cancer. The corporation does not appear to have done enough to test the dangers of its product. The company might have also known that NDMA contamination could have affected its products but did nothing to warn consumers about it.

A Hidden Danger

In 2019, chemical investigations lab Valisure found that the ranitidine contaminated by NDMA was prominent in most of the Zantac tablets it tested. The information from their tests is what prompted the FDA to create a mandatory Zantac recall in April 2020.

Valisure’s tests were unable to determine how long Zantac products have been contaminated by NDMA. However, it did determine that the contamination seemed to worsen the longer the product sat unused. This discovery seems to suggest that NDMA contamination can occur in any amount of ranitidine, which makes all Zantac unsafe. Some studies have also determined that ranitidine might create NDMA as a byproduct of digestion.

Holding Them Accountable

Concerns about ranitidine and NDMA exposure have been around long enough for Sanofi to take some form of action. Either researching the link itself or warning consumers about the potential link would have been appropriate first steps to make things right, yet the Big Pharma corporation did nothing of the sort. This negligence and inaction are what can make Sanofi liable for the harm caused by Zantac, and what justifies so many lawsuits from afflicted consumers.

If you or a loved one was diagnosed with cancer after using Zantac, especially after a relatively expansive period, then you might have a valid claim to file against Sanofi or another Zantac manufacturer. Zantac Lawsuit FAQ

What damages can you get from a Zantac lawsuit?

You can sue for all damages related to cancer caused by Zantac, including past and future medical bills, lost wages, pain, and suffering.

Should you hire a lawyer?

Yes, you should hire an attorney to help with your Zantac lawsuit because going head-to-head with Sanofi by yourself could be problematic for your claim. A lawyer can handle all aspects of it, empower your Zantac lawsuit claim with their experience, and also help you understand if your claim should be part of a larger mass tort against the defendant.

Who is the ideal Zantac plaintiff?

People who have been diagnosed with some form of cancer – often stomach, kidney, liver, and intestinal cancers – after taking Zantac for months or years are likely to have the strongest cases against Sanofi. However, don’t assume you don’t have a case because you didn’t take Zantac for long or don’t have any evidence that you did take it. Let our attorneys review your situation to see if you should be suing for compensation, too.
