Truck driver error may have resulted in Maryland pileup

There is often a stereotype that tractor-trailer drivers are aggressive drivers and act as if they own the road. Unfortunately, the stereotype exists because of too many accidents that occur because of a truck driver error. Recently, multiple Maryland drivers were impacted by a massive pileup that appears to have resulted from a swerving tractor-trailer.

Reportedly, an unmarked white tractor-trailer swerved into the lane and path of another driver. Authorities suspect that the driver's need to slam on the breaks to avoid a collision with the truck is what may have begun the multi-vehicle collision. The truck kept on driving but left a massive mess in its wake.

All in total, 18 vehicles were involved in the pileup. Two other tractor-trailers crashed, including one that was hauling large slabs of slate that were thrown onto the roadway. Considering the amount of vehicles involved, people were amazed that the accident did not result in any casualties. Reportedly, many who were injured were able to be treated by emergency medical service technicians at the scene, but four injured victims were transported to a medical center for further treatment. Authorities are searching for the tractor-trailer driver who may have started the collision.

In cases similar to this one, authorities often are able to track down responsible or negligent drivers. Maryland motorists who have suffered significant property damage or medical bills as a result of a similar type of truck driver error may be frustrated or stressed about how to cover their financial costs. A quick discussion with a personal injury attorney may help one understand the options for legal recourse when a negligent driver is identified or how to file a claim against their own insurance.
