Collisions: Drug use may have resulted in woman's death

Impaired judgment and reaction time is the main reason that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is prohibited. Unfortunately, alcohol and other drugs often impair the judgment of drivers who should refrain from getting behind the wheel of a vehicle in the first place. Sadly, tragic collisions occur in Maryland all too often due to the negligence of an impaired driver. One driver's substance use prior to driving may have resulted in a recent woman's death.

The 27-year-old man had more than one passenger in his sedan and was reportedly speeding down the road just prior to the accident. At some point, he crossed into the other lane and hit the side of another sedan, resulting in a horrific collision. The other sedan contained an 81-year-old female driver. A total of six people were injured in the collision.

The older woman suffered serious injuries and did not survive despite medical treatment. The speeding driver and one of his passengers also suffered serious injuries, and they are considered to be in critical condition. Authorities believe that the male driver consumed heroin and may have also consumed an opioid. The accident is still pending, and any possible charges will be determined later by the district attorney.

Collisions involving drug substances or alcohol consumption are unnecessary. A driver under the influence may be deemed negligent for the results of any accident. Families who have lost loved ones in similar accidents may be able to obtain legal recourse after consulting with a Maryland personal injury attorney about their case.
