Pedestrian accidents: Woman dies from injuries

In Maryland cities where pedestrians and motor vehicles often share the roadways, accidents are likely to occur. Unfortunately, when they do occur, they result in serious injuries and/or death. Considering a pedestrian has no protection when a collision occurs with a vehicle, it is no surprise that serious injuries can occur. Sadly, a woman recently lost her life after a vehicle struck her while she was walking.

The accident occurred in a parking lot on the National Institutes of Health campus. The victim was from South Korea and was working at the NIH as a post-doctoral fellow. The only details released are that a vehicle struck her and she did not survive her injuries. There were no other injuries reported as a result of the accident.

Reportedly, there have been at least 10 accidents involving pedestrians and vehicles on the NIH campus in the last three years. The post-doctoral fellow's death was the first fatality.  According to a website, plans have been made to add lighting to the walkways and warning signs on the NIH campus to promote safety for pedestrians.

Sadly, serious injuries, or worse, can occur in pedestrian accidents, as was tragically the case for this woman. When victims are fortunate to survive, there may be significant medical expenses following treatment, and family members of deceased victims may face expensive burial expenses and other financial losses. Maryland personal injury attorneys can advise any victim or family member of a victim of their legal options. Many choose to file a lawsuit in civil court based upon evidence of negligence.
